As Green Dot Public Schools National continues its search for a new Chief Executive, the National Board of Directors voted this week to appoint Chad Soleo as Interim CEO effective November 1, 2018. Soleo currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer, and previously held roles as an area superintendent and a high school principal in the organization.

“Chad’s selection helps ensure continuity and stability in the operations and services Green Dot provides while minimizing any impact that this transition may have on the schools, students, and families we serve. Our search for Green Dot’s next CEO must be deliberate and strategic, and we are confident in Chad’s stewardship of the organization as we work to identify our next permanent chief,” said Paul Miller, Chair of the Search Committee.

Very few people know Green Dot as well as Soleo does, having started with the organization more than a decade ago. Soleo began his teaching career in the classroom at Locke High School through Teach for America; he eventually helped organize educators in favor of Green Dot’s turnaround initiative there.

"All accomplishments in my short career have been due to the collaborative spirit at the heart of Green Dot’s culture. We must be unwavering in our resolve to ensure that all students have the opportunity to graduate prepared for college, leadership, and life.”

“I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to continue to serve Green Dot’s students and families in this new role -- Green Dot’s mission has driven my career as an educator, and there is no greater duty than to steward our organization at this time. My own experience and privilege is not sufficient to grant me the perspective that those we serve demand of each of us, and I will continue to rely on the excellent professionals in our schools and throughout our organization to help me. All accomplishments in my short career have been due to the collaborative spirit at the heart of Green Dot’s culture. We must be unwavering in our resolve to ensure that all students have the opportunity to graduate prepared for college, leadership, and life,” noted Soleo.

Soleo was the founding Principal at award-winning Ánimo Pat Brown Charter High School, named one of the best performing high schools nationwide by U.S. News & World Report, before becoming an area superintendent who supported many of Green Dot’s schools in LA. He led the establishment of Green Dot’s successful, and spun off, school in New York City, and has directly overseen development, communications, and community engagement work for the last several years.

“I believe that as we navigate this transition, Chad is the right leader to guide Green Dot National. In selecting Chad, we are committing to a stable and familiar leader for the organization, and the entire Board is confident in his leadership,” said Marlene Canter, Chair of the National Board of Directors. “I would like to extend my thanks to Chad for his ongoing leadership and particularly for assuming new responsibilities throughout this period of transition,” she concluded.
