Follow Excel’s Computational Thinking Balloon Into Space

On April 25th, 2017, Excel Public Charter School launched a weather balloon from Kent, Washington to an altitude of 112,000 feet to cap off the first-ever Computational Thinking Day. At its peak, the balloon traveled 58 miles, reaching into the Earth’s atmosphere. It landed just beyond the Cascade Mountains in a large field, miraculously just 300 feet from a major interstate. In the following weeks, Excel students explored the data captured throughout the flight in their Math and Science classes.

This year’s Computational Thinking Day is just a couple days away! On March 16, students from across Green Dot Washington will participate in an activity that culminate all of the work students have done in building computational thinking skills throughout the school year.
