Green Dot Public Schools Tennessee Updates 6/13
GDPST Updates June 13, 2021
Summer School
The 2020-21 school year has closed out and we are already going strong with our summer school programming. Each school will offer in person instruction that enables students to receive enrichment, make up course credits and participate in recreational activities supported by our 21st Century Learning programs. Programming was in high demand after this year of virtual learning, with 20% of GDPST students in attendance!
Summer school will continue through July 16, 2021 to make way for two weeks of teacher professional development. Whew! This journey to academic greatness never ends and we are so thankful parents chose us to prepare their students for college leadership and life!
Youuuu Get a Computer!
Congratulations to our 2021 graduates of Bluff City High, Fairley High and Hillcrest High. It is no small feat to complete the K-12 course of study. To show our appreciation for all the hard work students have put into their academic attainment, Green Dot Public Schools TN is sending every graduate off with a Chromebook. These Chromebooks have aged out of our system and rather than retire them, we are giving them to graduates to make sure they are able to continue their journey to college with a little extra support.
New Bell Schedules
There will be some exciting academic changes for the 2021-22 school year. We are looking forward to working with Fishtank Learning, the Lavinia Group and our eight period bell schedule. The new schedule will assist schools in supporting students with necessary interventions after many participated in distance learning for an entire school year. Students will be on a block schedule but unlike traditional blocks, they will receive math and ELA each day. Click here to view the 2021-2022 bell schedules!
UPAS Summer Workshop
Green Dot will partner with United Parents and Students (UPAS) for a two-week Young Organizer’s Institute at Bluff City High School, June 21-July 2, 2021. Students will have an opportunity to meet community leaders, learn more about the process of creating and changing policy through advocacy and most importantly begin the process of identifying an issue in their community for which they will advocate. If you have a high school student who is interested in participating, please reach out to Kevin Armstrong @ [email protected]
