Green Dot Public Schools Tennessee Re-Entry Updates 9/27

“You don't have to have it all figured out to move forward; just keep moving!"

And just like that, it's almost Fall Break! At Green Dot Public Schools TN, we are excited for the change of seasons. Memphis is a beautiful place as it transitions from summer to fall. This movement into a new season also signals that we are nearly at the end of the first quarter of distance learning, preparing to move into the next phase of academic attainment for our students. We will continue to learn, adjust, learn more, adjust again, all the while continuously moving forward.

IMPORTANT UPDATE - Preparing for Return to In-Person School:

We’re grateful to be able to serve families and students’ academic needs during the pandemic and for all of the lessons we have learned. As we continue making decisions for the safety and wellness of our school community, GDPST will continue to operate with transparency, providing as much information as possible to safely re-enter the building.

Thank you, Careismatic Brands!

We would like to send a huge Green Dot "THANK YOU" to Natalia Hodgson, Senior VP, Sales - Classroom Division at Careismatic Brands @classroomschool, for their uniform donation to all five GDPST schools! Through their generous donations, we will be able to provide uniform shirts and jackets to 100 scholars on each campus. We are grateful for their generosity and know that our families will appreciate these gifts!

Community Partner Spotlight: Code Crew

code crew logo

GDPST has been partnering with Code Crew for several years through our after school program, and for the past two years as an elective at Fairley High School. Code Crew is changing Memphis with programs that focus on ensuring that students are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and then learning how to put this knowledge to use through programming and software development concepts. CodeCrew programming includes a number of summer camps, after school programs, in-school electives classes, internships and special events.

Since May 2015, Code Crew has taught more than 2,000 students to code. Of the 500 kids they serve weekly, 91% are black and latinx youth, and 41% are girls who code. Overall, 89% of these students are more likely to study computer science.

Code Crew's programs expose students to producing technology, and provide them in-depth training that keeps them interested and engaged across a continuum of subjects and grade levels. The subjects include mobile app development, web app development, game development, robotics, and drone programming, all while teaching fundamental computer science concepts that apply long term to all levels of the field.

Thanks for partnering with us, Code Crew!
