LAUSD Renewal of 7 Green Dot Schools Reaffirms Accountability and Performance
As Green Dot Public Schools celebrates 20 years of changing the odds for students, we are proud that seven of our schools received charter renewals from the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Board of Education.
On Tuesday, December 8, the board renewed Ánimo Florence-Firestone Charter Middle School, Ánimo James B. Taylor Charter Middle School, Ánimo Watts College Preparatory Academy, and Ánimo Ralph Bunche Charter High School. This comes after Ánimo Ellen Ochoa Charter Middle School, Ánimo Legacy Charter Middle School, and Ánimo Jackie Robinson Charter High School were renewed in November.
Supporters and school leaders shared stories and quantitative results across all seven schools—demonstrating how instrumental each school has been in supporting the academic growth of students and equipping them with the tools they need to be successful in college, leadership, and life.
Unlike traditional public schools, all charter schools undergo oversight and authorization by elected local school boards to ensure that commitments made to the community and state are met. This results in more accountability than any other type of public school.
“We are pleased that our partners at LAUSD continue to support our students and families with high quality schools like these,” said Green Dot Public Schools California CEO & President, Dr. Cristina de Jesus. “We are proud to be recognized for our ability to grow student achievement and our integral part in the communities that we serve. Now more than ever, we must continue making progress in preparing all students, regardless of background, for college, leadership, and life.”
Each of these schools has achieved tremendous success. Earlier this year, Ánimo Jackie Robinson, Ánimo Watts, and Ánimo Ralph Bunche were recognized among the best high schools in the nation. Last fall, Ánimo Legacy, Ánimo James B. Taylor, Ánimo Florence-Firestone Middle and Ánimo Ellen Ochoa placed among the fastest growing schools under the CORE Index for Math and English. These renewals ensure that each of these schools can continue to provide families with high quality public school options for years to come.
