Welcoming a New Green Dot High School in Hickory Hill

Bluff City

Green Dot Public Schools is excited to announce a high quality high school option for students throughout South Memphis: Bluff City High School is set to open its doors for the first time in August 2017.

Bluff City High School will begin with a founding ninth grade cohort, and add a grade each year. Current eighth graders are eligible and invited to enroll as a founding member of the school and be a part of the first graduating class!

As an independent charter public school, the State Board of Education oversees our leadership and management of the school. We are accountable to these public officials who will review academic progress, school culture, fiscal management, and statewide curricular standards. We’re eager to provide a public option that offers students the opportunity to attend a public high school with a college-going culture, small classes, individualized attention, and a plethora of after-school activities.

Memphians already know the impact of a Green Dot school in our community—Hillcrest High, Fairley High, Kirby Middle, and Wooddale Middle are currently led by our educators and are part of the Green Dot network. At each of these schools, students and parents are impressed with the changes they are seeing from improving graduation rates, decreasing suspension and truancy rates, and better academic outcomes for their children.

The state charter requires us to conduct a lottery that guarantees fair admission to all incoming freshmen who have interest in enrolling at Bluff City. The lottery system is needed only if there are more interested students than seats available, and it ensures a fair enrollment process and does not lend preference to any student. There are 154 seats available for next year, so join us today and enroll your child in a great new public high school.
